WHERE TO GO FOR YOUR COVID TESTING NEEDS

At Newport Center Urgent Care, we offer rapid RT-PCR tests with same day results. Our facility also provides a range of additional services and is staffed by knowledgeable healthcare professionals.

The PCR (polymerase chain reaction) rapid test is a type of diagnostic test that amplifies and detects small pieces of DNA. This test can be used to diagnose a range of conditions, including COVID-19 and other infections, genetic disorders, and cancer.
PCR tests are highly accurate and are considered the gold standard for diagnosing infections. However, traditional PCR tests can take several hours or even days to complete. Rapid PCR tests can provide results in as little as 1-2 hours, making them an invaluable tool for diagnosing conditions quickly and accurately.
Rapid PCR tests have a number of advantages over traditional PCR tests, including:
They are much faster, providing results in 1-2 hours.
They are more convenient, as they can be performed at the point of care without the need for specialized laboratory equipment.
They are less expensive, as they do not require the use of expensive reagents and instruments.
Rapid PCR tests have revolutionized the way we diagnose infections and other conditions. By providing accurate results quickly and conveniently, they have made it possible to get patients the treatment they need sooner.
If you think you may have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus, or are experiencing symptoms, you could benefit from a rapid PCR test, talk to a healthcare professional today.

THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN RAPID PCR & LAB PCR

The main difference between rapid PCR testing and traditional PCR testing is the time it takes to get results. Rapid PCR tests can provide results in as little as 1-2 hours, while traditional PCR tests can take up to 3 days. This faster turnaround time is crucial for people who may be infected with COVID, as it allows them to get treatment more quickly.
Another difference is that rapid PCR tests are usually less accurate than traditional PCR tests. This is because they are not able to detect all of the genetic material from the virus. However, rapid PCR tests are still a valuable tool for identifying people who may be infected with COVID, as they can provide quick results that can help guide treatment decisions.

WHAT RAPID PCR TESTS ARE USED FOR

Rapid PCR tests are used to test for the presence of:
Viruses
Bbacteria
Other pathogens
They are commonly used to diagnose infections, such as influenza and COVID-19. Rapid PCR tests are also used to screen donated blood and organs, and to monitor environmental contamination. Rapid PCR tests can be performed in a healthcare provider's office, clinic, or hospital. The test takes about 30 minutes to complete.

ARE RAPID PCR TESTS ACCURATE?

The PCR rapid test is a reliable and accurate way to test for the presence of the coronavirus. The test works by amplifying a small sample of DNA from the virus, making it possible to detect even very small quantities of the virus.

In clinical trials, the PCR rapid test has been shown to be over 99% accurate in detecting the presence of the coronavirus. This makes it an essential tool for helping to control the spread of the virus.

The PCR rapid test is also quick and easy to administer, making it a valuable tool for screening large numbers of people.

WHAT IS AN ANTIBODY TEST FOR COVID-19?

An antibody test is used to find out if you have had a previous infection with the COVID-19 virus.

Antibodies are proteins that your body produces in response to an infection. The test involves taking a blood sample from a vein in your arm and sending it to a laboratory for analysis.

The PCR rapid test can also be used to detect antibodies, but it is less accurate than the standard blood test. They work by amplifying any fragments of the virus that may be present in the sample, but they cannot distinguish between live and inactive viruses. As a result, PCR tests can sometimes produce false-positive results.

WHEN YOU SHOULD GET TESTED FOR COVID-19

It is generally recommended that people get tested if they have symptoms of the virus, or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive. PCR and rapid tests are both effective ways of testing for COVID-19, and the type of test you choose will likely depend on your personal circumstances. If you have symptoms and need a quick result, a rapid test may be the best option. However, PCR tests are generally more accurate and can be used to test people who do not have symptoms. Ultimately, the decision of when to get tested should be made based on your individual risk factors and circumstances.

What is the rapid diagnostic test for COVID-19?

A rapid diagnostic test can show if you currently are infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. It is also referred to as a rapid antigen test.

Can COVID-19 be detected by CT scan?

The chest CT or X-ray cannot accurately distinguish between COVID-19 and other respiratory infections. Unlike swab tests, which lead to specific diagnoses of COVID-19, imaging findings are not enough for confirmation as they can only point out signs that there might be an infection present.

How long is the incubation period for COVID-19?

The incubation period for COVID-19 is typically around 2-14 days, though it can vary depending on the person.

How does COVID-19 affect the lungs?

The damaged lungs from COVID-19 infected patients are prone not just to infection, but also inflammation, which can lead them into a cycle of shallow breathing and increased risk for complications like pneumonia.

Is COVID-19 caused by a virus or a bacteria?

COVID-19 is caused by a virus.

What are some possible complications after recovering from COVID-19?

There are a number of possible complications that can develop after someone has experienced COVID-19. These include breathing difficulties, heart complications, and chronic kidney impairment among others - some which may last for life. People who were vaccinated with the recently discovered virus also had an increased risk in developing multisystem inflammatory syndrome, (which causes temporary paralysis), as well as Guillain Barre Syndrome.
