GET THE RESULTS YOU NEED

At Newport Center Urgent Care, we offer high-quality pregnancy tests (both urine and blood). Our facility also provides a range of additional services and is staffed by knowledgeable healthcare professionals.

If you think you may be pregnant, it's important to get a pregnancy test as soon as possible. At an urgent care clinic, our staff can provide you with a pregnancy test and help you understand the results.
Pregnancy tests usually involve either a blood test or a urine test. A blood test can detect pregnancy earlier than a urine test, but both types of tests are generally accurate. But when is the best time to take a pregnancy test?
The answer can vary depending on a few factors, including how regular your periods are and how sensitive the pregnancy test is that you're using. But in general, most experts recommend taking a pregnancy test at least one week after you miss your period.
If you're not sure when you ovulated (the process of releasing an egg from the ovary), then it's best to wait at least two weeks after you had unprotected sex before taking a pregnancy test. This will help ensure that the pregnancy test is as accurate as possible.
The turnaround time for an in-office urine pregnancy test at our location is 10 minutes, and the blood serum pregnancy test gets sent to a lab, which typically takes a day or two to get the results.
If the pregnancy test is positive, we can provide you with information about your next steps and refer you to an OB/GYN if necessary. If the pregnancy test is negative, we can discuss other potential causes of your symptoms and provide guidance on when to retest.
No matter what the results of your pregnancy test are, our staff at Newport Center Urgent Care is here to support you and answer any questions you may have.

REASONS FOR TAKING A PREGNANCY TEST

There are many reasons why you might want to take a pregnancy test. Maybe you've missed a period or two, or you're experiencing some early pregnancy symptoms like nausea or fatigue. Whatever the reason, taking a pregnancy test is an important way to find out if you're pregnant.

THE BEST TIME TO TAKE A PREGNANCY TEST

If you're wondering when the best time to take a pregnancy test is, the answer is usually around two weeks after you've missed your period. However, some tests are sensitive enough to detect a pregnancy even earlier than that. If you're unsure about when to take a test, it's always best to consult with your healthcare provider.

THINGS TO DO IF PREGNANT

If you are pregnant, there are a few things you'll need to do to ensure a healthy pregnancy. First, you'll need to start taking prenatal vitamins. These are vitamins and minerals that are essential for the development of the baby. You'll also need to make sure you're getting enough folic acid, as this can help prevent certain birth defects. You should also avoid alcohol and smoking, as these can be harmful to the developing baby.

COMMON PREGNANCY SYMPTOMS

You might also find that your breasts are larger and more tender than usual. These symptoms can start as early as a few days after you conceive.
One of the most common early symptoms of pregnancy is:
nausea and vomiting, often called "morning sickness." This can happen at any time of day, and it doesn't just happen in the morning. Some women have mild nausea, while others have severe vomiting and might even vomit up blood.
Another common symptom is fatigue. You might find that you're more tired than usual, and you might need to take naps during the day. This fatigue can last throughout your entire pregnancy.
Other common symptoms include:
Food cravings
Changes in your sense of smell
And mood swings

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Newport Center Urgent Care offers a variety of pregnancy testing options to best suit your needs. We are here for the Irvine and greater Orange County community.

How soon can I take a pregnancy test?

You should wait to take a pregnancy test until a week after your missed period. However, if you do not want to wait until you possibly miss your period, you could take a test 1-2 weeks after sexual intercourse. This is because your body needs some time to pass to develops levels of HCG that are detectable on a test.

What tests detect early pregnancy?

A blood test can detect early pregnancy, because it can detect smaller amounts of HCG. Blood tests are able to detect pregnancy even before a missed period, and are about 99% accurate.

Do early pregnancy tests work?

Early pregnancy tests are still generally reliable. If you get a positive result, it is likely that you are indeed pregnant. However, if you get a negative result, it is possible that the test just wasn't sensitive enough to pick up on the hCG in your body.

CAN YOU DETECT A PREGNANCY AT 1 WEEK?

Since the hormonal changes detected by the at-home pregnancy tests haven't started happening in your body yet at one week, you cannot detect it at that point.

What are the signs of one week pregnancy?

Some signs of one week pregnancy are: -headache -frequent urination -nausea, (with or without vomiting) -increased basal body temperature -fatigue or tiredness -discomfort without bleeding, or mild pelvic cramping -any changes in your breasts, (including tenderness, tingling feeling, swelling, or noticeable blue veins) -gas or bloating in the belly

What lab test is done for pregnancy?

Most women will have a blood serum test to confirm pregnancy about eight to 10 days after ovulation. This is usually done at your healthcare provider's office or clinic. The test measures the level of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in your blood. HCG is produced by the placenta and is the hormone that detects pregnancy. If the test is positive, you will likely have another blood test to check hCG levels again and to confirm that they are rising as they should.
